Salad Nommage and the Abuse of the Word "Gourmet"

My mom is a real abuser of the word "gourmet," and it's quite astounding given the kinds of meals she can create. Generally, though, the abuse comes around lunch time, when some of us are wanting a little more than a Cup O' Noodles, and quite frankly, something fresher than that, too.

Today's "gourmet" dish is a quick and easy one: The Basic Vinaigrette Salad.

-------------------------------------------------------

Put some balsamic vinegar and olive oil in a bowl way bigger than you think you need, according to Sir Alton Brown.

Yummy all by itself, but feel free to add some salt if you wish.

A head of Romaine will work fine. The darker the greens, the better they are for you. Tear gently!

I like carrots because they add crunch, sweetness, and beta carotene for some of that tasty eye health!

Mix it up gently but right quick, as the dressing will leave that lettuce less than perky in a couple minutes.

I just toss on some croutons and add a side of plump tomatoes a la Costco for good measure.
I thought it right to do so given the whole "gourmet" name applied to this simpler than simple salad!

Next time I'm definitely throwing either some chicken, beef, or salmon on top of that, need more protein according to Jarrad again!

Other sides for this lunch were:
Multigrain knäckbröd, aka crispbread, with homemade raspberry jam
Apple slices
Decent handful of pure raw almonds!

Good Nommage!
